Who is FFS?

FFS (Forever Falling Short) is a website dedicated to my passion for music and my recovery from drug addiction. It’s also about my love of surfing, skateboarding and motocross.

My name is Damien (or “Damo”) Murphy and I was born in Coffs Harbour, New South Wales. I now live in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

How it started

Forever Falling Short started out as a concept while I was in rehab for my addiction to marijuana, of which I am over 5 years clean and sober. I was an addict for 16 years and my case worker suggested to myself and a few other part time musicians to write music relating to the Narcotics Anonymous 12 Steps program. It planted a seed and not long after, Forever Falling Short was created. It started out as a Facebook page and in July 2014 a blog.

Forever Falling Short, Looking Beyond the Darkness is a metaphor for all things that have happened in my life.. As much as I have always fallen short in most areas of my life, I look beyond the darkness, get up and keep going.

My passions

I have a passion for all genres of music, in particular, heavy metal. A self taught rhythm guitarist, I’m always aiming to improve my skills.

I’ve always loved to surf, skateboard and try anything with motorbikes. The music, the surfing, the skateboarding and the motocross have all helped in my recovery.

My music

I’m in the process of recording an EP which will be an album of music created around my life and my recovery. I love seeing live gigs and write music reviews. I share great music here, on Facebook and Twitter. I have a couple weekly features, one called Mosh Pit Monday and the other, FFS Friday Five, which gives you a bit of an insight into some of my favourite things.

If you’d like to work with me, share your music or story of addiction/recovery, please don’t hesitate to contact me at dfm2375 at gmail dot com.
