Mosh Pit Monday
Welcome to another week and another Mosh Pit Monday.  What a great couple of weeks I’ve had. I’ve had so many great musical experiences in the last 12 months including personally meeting and seeing in concert Joe Satriani, the Soundwave Festival, Pennywise and last Friday night, one of the best metal bands in the world at the moment, Parkway Drive. We’re still trying to come down from the high so a review is coming but if you get a chance, you really should get to try and see them. The most friendly bunch of guys (I met them in person at a CD signing) you’d ever meet and they put on an awesome show. Stay tuned!

While we’re on the subject of great Aussie metal acts, I’d like to introduce you to a new band out of Melbourne, Victoria I’ve just stumbled across “Villa Morta“. According to the band’s bio, in Roman mythology the Parcae determined a persons’ journey through life, from birth to the final breath. Known in Western culture as the three sisters of Fate they controlled each mortals’ thread of life.

Nona, the youngest sister, spun the metaphorical thread. Decima, the middle sister, measured the length of each thread. Morta, the eldest sister, cut the thread, thereby choosing the manner and time of each mortal’s death. Morta was a frequent vision for those who would soon endure pain or death. She came from both the god of night and goddess of darkness, so she easily walked between the half world of wakefulness and sleep.  Villa, meaning house in Italian, looks at our spiritual home. It symbolizes a sense of belonging, of connection, with a people, a culture, and a way of life that surrounds us through life and death.  Villa Morta examines our journey, guided by the three Fates, to our spiritual home: the complicated balance of choices, beliefs, and ideas that make up our lives. We share our own journeys and ideas, bringing light to the importance of overcoming and growing from experiences to focus on process rather than outcomes when finding true happiness and direction. We focus on discovering the path to the place and mindset you find yourself at the end: the Villa Morta.

Band members are Josh Hill on vocals, Masa Myer on guitar, Chris Davies on guitar, Chris Coughlin on bass and Benny Clark on drums.  The guys have released a 6 track EP called “Headspace” which has some amazing tracks on it.
One of my favourite tracks on the EP is “Shapeshifter”, an excellent mix of hardcore riffs, wicked vocals and upbeat hard hitting lyrics. The guys are picking up some great gigs including Melbourne Cup Eve supporting I Killed The Prom Queen at Plastic in Melbourne so check them out if you’re down that way. In the meantime, you can follow Villa Morta on Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, Bandcamp and Soundcloud. I hope the guys get up to Queensland some time. I’d love to catch them live.
Hope you have a great week in music and keep moshin’! Stay tuned for all the deets on the Parkway Drive concert. ,,,/ ,,,/
