Mosh Pit Monday
Well folks, it’s time for Mosh Pit Monday and it was definitely Mosh Pit Saturday and Sunday after my favourite event on the music calendar for the year, Soundwave XV at the RNA Showgrounds, Brisbane! Two days of some hard, rockin’ metal bands, all in the one place.

Definitely a highlight for me every year, and especially since my recovery. I would never had enough money in the past to attend this event because I was too busy trying to score. It certainly does prove to me how far I’ve come and how living my life and having life experiences such as these far outweighs any day on the weed.  Speaking of which, there was plenty of that being smoked around me. So much for the organisers of the event not letting it in. It doesn’t worry me what other people do. It was just the smell of it was making me sick. A lot of alcohol was drunk too by people and a lot of empty cans and bottles left lying around. Not too many drunk people though which was good. Everyone from all walks of life were there, young and old, just enjoying the music and the atmosphere.

Anyway, I’m going to just bombard this post with photos from the two day event. No words could describe how fantastic it was. The music spoke for itself. Some highlights from Day 1 were Slipknot, for sure. Slash and The Conspirators were great, singing a lot of the Guns’n’Roses classics. Even Marilyn Manson put on a good show with a great sound. Godsmack were also a highlight as was Finnish band Apocalyptica.

We were pretty exhausted by the time we got home Saturday night so it was a late start not getting into the venue until the Sunday afternoon. Lucky the bands we wanted to see didn’t start until late. We were there just in time for Fear Factory who were awesome. We caught a bit of Steel Panther and they were pretty funny and showed they could still rock pretty solid. We also caught a bit of Crown the Empire who were great. We waited around for Ministry to perform but were a little put off by the huge video screen flashing a million images a second which distracted from their performance but the next act, Dragonforce, were definitely our highlight from the whole weekend. An awesome display of talent from the UK, they blew us all away with their amazing guitar work and on stage presence. A totally awesome experience. We were just left astounded after that and weren’t sure anything could beat it. We wandered over to see a bit of Faith No More, Atreyu, Lamb of God and The Devil Wears Prada.

That was it for Soundwave XV but some awesome memories and an amazing experience. It was my fiance’s first Soundwave and going by her reaction to seeing some of the bands, I’m sure it won’t be her last. She’s pumped to becoming my bass guitarist so you never know. We might actually get our band together one day and be rockin’ the stage with some of these great acts. We can all dream big!
