Welcome to Mosh Pit Monday! The first for 2015. Hope you saw the new year in safely and in style. Unfortunately I’ve been suffering from ‘man flu’ so it was an early night for us. Again, we’ve not been to any live gigs in the last couple of weeks due to the Christmas/New Year period and having kids at home but we hope to change that soon and we are sussing out some great live gigs coming up.
This week I wanted to feature a fellow Aussie that I happened to stumble across one day while searching Youtube clips. It was probably a few years ago now so I’ve been a big fan for a while. Robert Spurling, from Newcastle, New South Wales is an excellent guitarist and very much in the style of one of my biggest idols, Joe Satriani.
In fact, Robert has played with Joe. Back in May 2013, Robert won a competition to perform on stage with Joe, and rightfully so. I couldn’t think of anyone more talented and deserving than Robert.
Originating from Perth, Western Australia, Robert is a chemical engineer by trade but it’s music that drives him. He’s a solo guitarist with a smooth rhythm and excellent lead guitar skills. His songs are original with a smooth, flowing style. He plays effortlessly but with great precision. A true master with the guitar. Here are some of my favourite songs of his.
