Mosh Pit Monday
Welcome to another edition of Mosh Pit Monday, the place where your music will be heard and seen across all social media channels because it’s all about sharing what’s out there. I was blown away with over 200 hits on Mosh Pit Monday # 2 last week. Thanks everyone! You guys rock!
Last week I felt like a bit of a rock star groupie going out both Tuesday and Wednesday nights to see live gigs. On Tuesday night I saw the guitar legend himself, Joe Satriani. What can I say that hasn’t already been said before. The man is an absolute master at what he does. I’m still feeling like it was a surreal experience and something I’ll never forget. Joe was supported by a really cool two piece band out of Houston, Texas called Sit Down, Servant who played some really cool sounds on the steel guitar and a groovy jazz drum beat. You can read my review on the concert here.
Wednesday night, my girlfriend and I were out at Heat 2 of the Reign Havok, Battle of the Bands at The Crowbar in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane. The bands fighting it out on the night were Soul Solitude, Worse for Wear and The Atticus Exposure. (Dead Zephyr couldn’t make it unfortunately.)
First up was Soul Solitude, a four piece progressive metal band from here in Brisbane. The band comprises Sean Bridgewater on vocals/guitar, Daniel Kusznir on lead guitar, Ryan Begbie on bass and Michael Kusznir on drums.

These guys really rocked and for young guys showed a wealth of talent, particularly Daniel Kusznir on lead. He really impressed me with his skill and style. I was surprised they didn’t win because they performed so well on the night but I hope to see them in the final as the wild card entrant. If not, check your local gig guides because they’re a great band to see live and I expect will go on to bigger and better things. Check out their great music here.
Second to perform on the night was a band, also from Brisbane, called Worse for Wear. A three piece melodic punk rock band, who were just excellent. Their music reminded me of bands like Offspring or Pennywise and what surprises me most is how these up and coming bands can keep creating original material that rocks.

The band members are Curtis Heinz, Clint Hillhouse and Zac Heinz. A laid back, punk rock style, these guys were the ultimate winners on the night and really showed a depth of talent. Some of their songs showed some real commercial strength and I reckon I’ll be hearing them on the radio soon, if not playing some of the big gigs around town. I wish them all the success in the world. You can check out their latest track “Headspin” right here.
Finally, The Atticus Exposure performed and I wasn’t sure what to expect. They all looked so young and softly spoken. Once they started, they blew me away with their hard metal sound and energy on stage. Again, more original material from such young guys just amazes me. The stage is small at The Crowbar but that didn’t hinder them at all. They really rocked it out on the night.
This six piece band, also hailing from Brisbane, comprises Chris McCulloch on scream vocals, Jesson Bout on clean vocals and synth, Dylan Gibbs on lead, Jaffy on rhythm, Matt Duncalfe on bass and Bryn Arnfield on drums. Dylan smashed it on lead with his enthusiasm and energy and if not for a few technical difficulties on the night would’ve also been a force to be reckoned with. You can check out their great sound here.
Heat 3 of Reign Havok Battle of the Bands is on again this Wednesday night at The Crowbar and I’m really looking forward to it. So much original fresh talent coming out of Brisbane. The bands competing are Endless, Dirty Genes, Particles in Motion and Dameena. Can’t wait! Come and check out some local guys and for only $5 cover charge on a Wednesday night, it’s a cheap night out and you’ll enjoy some great rock sounds.
Click on all the band’s links below and give them a ‘like’ or check out their music. They must put in hours of work and practice to be as good as they are. You never know. You could be listening to the next big thing. Feel free to link up your own band’s music, Facebook pages, Twitter accounts or links to your other music sites.  See you all again next Monday!
