Welcome to the second edition of Mosh Pit Monday!  A place to link up any music related Facebook pages, Twitter accounts, links to music clips, notification of upcoming gigs and anything else you’d like to plug. Come and check out the talent from all around the world, from heavy metal to rap or punk. We’ve got it all covered here.
Last Wednesday night I had the privilege to attend Heat 1 of the Reign Havok Battle of the Bands competition at The Crowbar in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane.  I was really keen to attend as a band I used to jam with (Buddha Does Metal) had entered the competition.
The first band on stage, Sedation, a 5 piece metal/alternative band, originally reigning from Cairns in North Queensland, are based in Brisbane but have their sights set on bigger things. They released their first EP in May this year and you can check it out here. The band comprises Stephen Black on guitar, Justin Vincent on guitar, Tyler Meyn on drums, Ryan Sheppard does great vocals in “Parkway Drive” style and Kyle Lamont is on bass.
They had a fantastic stage presence, albeit a small stage and would’ve really rocked it out if the stage was bigger. They show a lot of promise for a bunch of young guys. They get their influence from bands such as Killswitch Engage, Trivium and August Burns Red, all favourite bands of mine. I can see them playing such gigs as Soundwave in the very near future. Good luck guys!
Next on stage was Buddha Does Metal (BDM), four mates of mine from the north side of Brisbane, who are a trance metal band. Troy Cottrell (vocals) is the driving force behind the band and does a lot of work behind the scenes as well as with writing lyrics. In Troy’s words BDM are “4 creative souls coming together for the love of music, focusing on awakening humanity to the purpose of freedom”. Max Broccolo is on guitar, Les Warry on bass and Andrew Tombs does a wicked job on the drums. You can check out some of BDM’s latest recordings here on Reverbnation.
It was a real credit to the guys to get up on stage. They really rocked it out on the night and I wish them all the success in the world. Keep up the good work fellas!
The ultimate winners on the night, Pyre and Ice, are, in their own words “just a little bit different with rock songs of love, twisted emotions, betrayal and lust”.  Currently Brisbane/Tweed Heads based, they have already gained some recognition on radio, headlined other venues around the State and won various other heats in battle of the bands competitions.

Up front on vocals is Ms Teri Abbott who really belted it out on stage with a broad range of rich vocal strength. Other band members are Shane Connelly on drums, Bart Lucas on lead guitar, Ian Cunningham on bass and Jason Poggi on guitar/keys. They were a strong act on the night and hard to beat. The band members were all great talent in their own right but strongly gelled together to create a great rock sound. They get their influences from Kings of Leon, Tool, Muse, Led Zeppelin, The Gossip, Jack White and Garbage.  Keep your ears and eyes open for Pyre and Ice as I’m sure they’ll be hitting the music scene in a big way.  You can check out some of their recordings here.
Heat 2 of Reign Havok is on this coming Wedneday night (5 November) at The Crowbar. Entry is only $5 per head and if you want to check out some local metal talent, head on down. Bands competing this time around include Worse for Wear, Soul Solitude, The Atticus Exposure and Dead Zephyr. The venue has a relaxed atmosphere with a low set stage so you can get up close and personal to the bands. The sound is good and loud and you never know, you might be seeing the ‘next big thing’. Stay tuned for my review in next week’s Mosh Pit Monday.
