Kramer Vanguard  FR-440S BKM

This guitar would definitely be my number one favourite guitar. I was working in Brisbane city one day when on my way home I called into the local Musicians Pro Shop in Fortitude Valley just to have a look. As I was just about to leave, I noticed this guitar sitting on a stand, on its own and thought, “why hello there”. I picked it up, expecting to see a high price tag. I was blown away. It was $799.00 reduced to $199.00. There was no way I was letting this guitar go to anyone. I took it straight to the counter, got the guy to hold it, bolted home, got the cash and paid for it that afternoon. I rocked up at practice that afternoon with a band I was rhythm guitarist for at the time and said “hows this f**king beast”. I was stoked. I love the look of this style guitar. They just look damn wicked and sexy all in one. I find it awesome to play. Super smooth neck, nice and light, easy access to all the frets and the cut away makes it great for trying to get solos nailed. The pick ups are great for the metal / punk genres, though I have a pair of EMG 81 – 85 that at some point I would like to get installed. There is nothing I can say to give this guitar a bad wrap.

I have this guitar tuned at standard E tuning.

The Kramer Vanguard electric guitar features a modified offset V-shaped alder body with a unique partial cutaway that gives you access to the 24-fret rosewood fingerboard. The bolt-on maple neck has a thin-taper profile that makes shredding effortless. A recessed double-locking Floyd Rose tremolo system keeps a low profile that won’t get in your way and will keep you in tune no matter how aggressively you play. The Kramer Vanguard’s electronics include dual humbucking pickups with a master volume, master tone with push/pull coil splitting, and a 3-way selector. Volume features what Kramer calls the “treble bleed” mod, which lets you keep your tone bright when backing down the volume control. Dress up features of this Kramer Vanguard guitar include deep beveled body edges, thorn-shaped fretboard inlays and black hardware. In the mid-1970s, when Kramer guitars began, they were exclusively producing aluminum necked guitars. In 1982, Kramer cemented an exclusive distribution deal with Floyd Rose. Kramer guitars were also loaded with additional features like Schaller tuners and Seymour Duncan pickups.

With the endorsement of Eddie Van Halen, Kramer became the world’s best selling guitar in the mid-80s. The Gibson Guitar Company has bought the revered Kramer brand and has reissued many of the historic Kramer guitars and introduced modern design innovations as well. Kramer players include a who’s who of rock guitarists, including Eddie Van Halen, Ritchie Sambora, Mick Mars, Vivian Campbell, and many, many more!
